Gayle Sans career already began in the early 90´s in her hometown Singapore. She started as a warmup DJ for Bands such as Kool and the Gang Earth Wind and Fire and the Commodores,in the Top ten club which was the club of that moment on that island. Leaving her native Singapore in 1988,to pursue her dj career in the UK, nobody expected such a massive success for Gayle in the music business. Gayle's first steps into the London clubs were via DJing at record company parties, various one-off guest spots and fashion shows. These slots soon led to Gayle being made resident at 'Reach for the Sky' at London's Limelight club, where she played alongside global DJs which Gayle describes as "the steepest learning curve possible". Having honed her DJing skills and broadened her understanding of music, Gayle began to experiment with the harder side of dance music, particularly the lesser known techno sounds coming into Britain from Europe and the US of that time.

In 1994, Casual (of Hieroglyphics) was involved in a high profile battle with rapper Saafir (of Hobo Junction). The beef originally started when Saafir appeared on Casual's debut album, and did not appear on Saafir's. This ignited the infamous Hiero vs Hobo Junction battle, which involved some controversy when rumors surfaced that Saafir was using pre-written raps as opposed to Casual and Hieroglyphics expected freestyling. Despite this, it is regarded as an influential battle in underground hip-hop's history.
Casual has expressed, much like the rest of the Hieroglyphics crew the importance of competition in hip hop, stating "I think that MCing should be a competitive thing, almost like a sport. The only way an MC can keep polishing and sharpening his skills is to test them against the competition and the up and coming young bloods."

"Atlantic and Elektra records had a showcase event at SXSW dubbed Killers Lasers Papers, which was initially to feature sets from Lupe Fiasco, Cee Lo and Wiz Khalifa. Subsequently, Lupe and Cee Lo had to cancel, so at the last minute B.o.B and Janelle Monae filled in to perform. Jane put on an epic show, complete with a full band, a horns section, dancers, look-a-like back up singers, painting, intuitive dancers and the proper stage theatrics one would expect from the left-field mind of Ms. Monae. But all presentation aside, Janelle is one hell of a performer and she and her bandmates killed their set. Luckily for those of us were not in Austin, TX this week, the concert was livestreamed, so here is the full soundboard audio of her set."-IATWL
